Specific Aim 1: To follow the cohort of 285 patients with type 1 DM completing the 5-year RASS, one-third of whom were on ACEi, one-third on ARB, and one-third on placebo, for a further 10 years with annual measurements of albumin excretion rate (AER), blood pressure (BP) and bi-annual measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Specific Aim 2: To follow the cohort of 285 patients with type 1 DM completing the 5-year RASS for a further 10 years with 3 interval assessments of fundus photographs.
