ROLE OF PROSTAGLANDINS IN AUTONOMIC/CARDIOVASCULAR CONTROL IN HUMANS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. In this project, the investigators plan to determine the role of endogenous prostaglandins on autonomic and cardiovascular regulation both at rest and in response to physiological stressors. In addition, they will study if these effects are altered with age. The investigators hypothesize that prostaglandins tonically augment baroreflex sensitivity, inhibit sympathetic outflow and alter the skeletal muscle blood flow responses to physiological stressors in an age-dependent manner.
