This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Behavioral and dietary habits contribute to the loss of bone mineral density that increases the risk of fractues in older men. This study proposes to establish a cohort of 1000 elderly men to be followed longitudinally over a four-year period to: 1. evaluate risk factors for low bone mineral density 2. indentify factors associated with decrease in bone density over time and; 3. identify factors related to changes in bone ultrasound measurements over time (a measure of the "quality" of bone).
