This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. During the previous funding period this Core provided DNA sequencing, protein sequencing, mass spectrometry for analysis and identification of proteins, and confocal microscopy resources to all investigators associated with this COBRE and many other investigators from both MMCRI and from outside institutions. The demand for Core services has grown with the growth of the Institution. The hiring of additional personnel experienced in the use of high end instrumentation (mass spectrometry, confocal microscopy) and interpretation of the data generated by these instruments has been incorporated into the budget and research plan for the next five years of COBRE support. This will include hiring 2 FTEs and the addition of D. Spicer as a Co-Director of the Core. D. Spicer has been added to the Core to coordinate both internal and external microarray studies. The Core has established a fee-for-service schedule for services offered. These fees will supplement COBRE and Institutional funds to help meet the increasing demand for Core services as well as to move the Cores towards self-sufficiency when COBRE resources are no longer available.
