This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Participation in the Faculty Training Core is required for the six Target Faculty of the Research Core. The INBRE pays 5% salary release for each faculty member serving as a mentor. It also provides a training program that is run by the director of this core, Dorothy Hudig, Ph.D. A noteworthy component of the program is that career development workshops are open to all interested faculty members at every participating institution. 1. Regular meetings between mentors and target faculty. 2. Establishment of a committee of mentors that meets bimonthly to review progress (the Research Training Committee (RTC)). 3. Yearly oral presentation of data at the NVCI sponsored ¿Nevada Cancer Research Meeting¿. 4. Extramural pre-review of individual grant proposals by experts who will discuss their reviews during a visit to the target faculty member in Nevada. 5. Annual mock study sections to improve the junior faculty¿s grantsmanship. 6. Over 20 different career development workshops on topics designed to address the multiple needs of beginning scientists. Workshops are open to all interested faculty. 7. Regular (biannual) critical feedback by the target faculty on effectiveness of mentors and Nevada-INBRE resources. 8. Critical appraisal of Target Faculty progress by the External Advisory Board.
