This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Core A, the Administrative Core, is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Molecular Targets Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (MT-COBRE). Core A manages the scientific and administrative aspects of the COBRE. In collaboration with the Administrative Assistant, Drs. Miller and Eaton are responsible for oversight of all administrative aspects of the COBRE. Several important changes have been made during the first three years of the MT-COBRE. Three of the five original investigators have received NIH funding during that period. Dr. Robert Mitchell, Dr. Jason Chesney, and Dr. Binks Wattenberg have received NIH R01 grants. This funding has provided an opportunity to recruit additional faculty to the MT-COBRE. We have been very fortunate to identify several outstanding candidates for the program. Dr. Chi Li has joined the program from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Geoffrey Clark will join the program in July from the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Venkatakrishna Jala, who has been a postdoctoral trainee at the University of Louisville, will also soon join the program. We have identified two outstanding recruits for the single remaining position. Dr. Qiutang Li has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Salk Institute in San Diego. Dr. Vishwa Dixit is being recruited from the National Institute on Aging in Baltimore. We are making offers to both of these individuals. If we are fortunate enough to attract both candidates, we will use University funds to support the recruitment of one individual and use COBRE funds for the second. In concert with these recruitments we have also identified three outstanding, experienced mentors: Dr. James Lillard, Dr. Douglas Dean, and Dr. Hari Bodduluri.
