XAS SHORT COURSE AND ITS APPLICATION IN STRUCTURAL MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Structural Molecular Biology X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy group hosted an X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) Short Course March 13-16, 2007. The training included two days of lectures which covered basic theory, experimental considerations, and applications. The lectures were followed by two days of rotating practical sessions, which included hands-on data collection at beam lines 7-3 and 9-3, followed as data analysis using EXAFSPAK and FEFF. Participants were able to bring their own samples and to obtain preliminary data sets. The short course was attended by 18 participants.
