This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
The goal of this project is to develop methods for active staining and scanning of 18-21 day rat fetuses and 21 day old rat pups to provide the necessary foundation for future studies in developmental biology and developmental toxicology.
More specifically we will do the following:
--- develop perfusion methods for carrying Gd contrast agent (ProHance) into the specimen to reduce T1
--- titrate the concentration using quantitative T1/T2 histograms to determine the distribution of relaxation times in selected coronal slices; develop a 3D acquisition protocol that will allow the highest possible SNR, and organ definition in 8 hours per scan
--- determine the resolution required for routine MR histology in the 18-21 day rat fetus; determine the resolution required for routine MR histology of the 21 day rat pup
--- understand how to develop a biologically relevant standard operating procedure for MR histology
