This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The small molecule, benzylthiourea A22 has been reported to bind to the bacterial cytoskelton protein MreB, which is an actin homolog. The exact nature of this binding is still not fully understood, and no binding constants for A22 have been measured. We hypothesize that a series of NMR experiements will 1) help establish whether A22 interacts with MreB, and 2) if it does interact, allow us to determine the dissociation constant.
