英文摘要
The organizational model for the MRCE is shown in the figure below. The MRCE currently encompasses five major institutional partners, Case Western Reserve University, the Midwest Research Institute, St. Louis University School of Medicine, the University of Missouri, and Washington University School of Medicine. These institutions will house the Core Facilities and be primarily responsible for the research and training missions of the MRCE. In the planning stages of the MRCE, partner status was offered to all the leading academic centers within Region VII. Some of these institutions elected to develop their own consortia and produce separate RCE or RCE planning applications. However, to best fulfill its mission of fostering research and training in biodefense and emerging infectious diseases within all of Region VII, the MRCE will remain open to the addition of interested institutions from the four State area or any geographically proximate region not served by a RCE. These institutions will have the opportunity to become full institutional partners in the MRCEmthis status will allow them to house core facilities, to apply for MRCE research support, and to fully participate in the governance of the MRCE. Individual investigators from any institution or biotechnology company within Region VII that have NIH or other governmental support to work on class A-C agents will be eligible for MRCE membership. This will give them the right to access MRCE Core Facilities and apply for MRCE research support. The Administrative Core of the MRCE will be located within the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine. The line of accountability regarding the financial management of the Research Core Facilities, Research Projects Programs, Career Develcpment Programs, and Emergency Response Plan proceeds through the Administrative Core. Authority for the Administrative Core proceeds through the Chairman of the Department of Medicine (Dr. Kenneth Polonsky), and the Dean of the Medical School (Dr. William Peck, see letter of commitment). The Administrative Core offices will be located in space provided by the Department of Medicine at Washington University School of Medicine on the 7t"floor of the McDonnell Sciences Pediatric Research Building. On adjacent floors are the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and the Department of Molecular Microbiology. The day to day administration of the Center will be carried by the Director; in his absence, Dr. Virginia Miller will serve as Acting-Director. The Director will consult on a regular basis with the co-Directors, Dr. Miller, Dr. Belshe, and Dr. Kazura. The Director will be advised by the Executive Committee and the Advisory Committees.
