PROJECT SUMMARY (See instructions): The MRCE Career Development Award in Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Research supports intensive research and career development under the guidance of an experienced mentor, or sponsor, specializing in biodefense or EID. This program builds from our previously successful MRCE Clinical and Translational Fellowship award, but prolongs the support period, and broadens eligibility to include individuals at the instructor and junior faculty level. This program is intended for senior post-doctoral or junior faculty (instructor to very early assistant professor level) whose intended career goals include developing long-term academic research programs in the field of biodefense or EID research. Awards are limited to investigators within Public Health Region VII (MO, IA, NE, KS) and Cleveland, OH. Preference will be given to candidates with research plans related to the MRCE's core research themes. Awardees must be able to devote 80% of their professional effort to the program and identify a mentor with exceptional experience in biodefense or EID research. The award provides three consecutive 12-month budget periods and will include funds for salary, fringe benefits, and research development costs when applicable.
