This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The objective of this project is to develop an easy method for measuring fractional intestinal calcium absorption using dual stable Ca isotopes that does not involve multiple blood sampling or a 24 hr urine collection. The hypothesis to be tested is: the steady state ratio, of serum levels of the stable isotopes of calcium given orally and intravenously, represents fractional intestinal calcium absorption.
