This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Specific Aim #1: To compare the physical activity level and sedentary behavior of children with chronic cardiac conditions to that of healthy children. Specific Aim #2: To evaluate the physical activity level in relation to central (cardiopulmonary function) and peripheral (skeletal muscle and catecholamine and cytokine responses) mechanisms of exercise intolerance. Specific Aim #3: To assess the effect of short-term exercise training on cardiopulmonary capacity, muscle volume, catecholamine and cytokine responses to exercise and quality of life measures.
