EVALUATING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, OBESITY AND CARDIOVASCULAR RISK FACTORS IN CHIL

Decreased physical activity and development of obesity are threatening the long term cardiovascular health of children with congenital heart disease (CHD). Little is known regarding physical activity and cardiovascular risk factors for developing coronary heart disease among children with CHD. We hypothesize that children with CHD have lower physical activity and higher prevalence of obesity when compared to healthy children. In addition, we hypothesize that psychosocial and environmental factors play important roles in determining physical activity among children with CHD. The main objectives of this study are to evaluate physical activity, obesity, and cardiovascular risk factors in pre-adolescent children with CHD, and to assess factors determining the physical activity in these children.
