This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the
resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and
investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,
and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is
for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.
This project involves two proteins, the alpha subunit of the heterotrimeric G protein of phototransduction, transducin (Gat), and its effector enzyme, cGMP phosphodiesterase (PDE6), a heterotetrameric protein with two catalytic (ab) and two inhibitory subunits (rr). Both PDE6 and Gat are peripheral membrane proteins with covalently attached lipids and we have studied their complexes both in solution (ice) and attached to lipid bilayer membranes.
