TRANSESOPHAGEAL ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY EVALUATION AND MRI OF THE AORTA IN LUPUS

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This pilot study will use magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a non-invasisve imaging technique to evaluate the extent of atherosclerosis disease in the aorta, and compare the results with transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) evaluation. This will test the fesability and validity for using the MRI technique to study atherosclerotic disease in patients who have systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and are affected by accelerated and premature cardiovascular disease.
