This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. During the reporting period, we found that the n. accumbens does not seemed to be involved in learning about safety cues, the brain brain-derived neurotrophic factor transcripts are differentially activated by fear learning, that NMDA antagonists into the basolateral, but not the medial nucleus of the amygdala block olfactory-mediated fear-potentiated startle, that overexpression of CREB in the amygdala facilitates fear learning in an ethologically relevant model of learning, and that gonadal steroids modulate our models of anxiety, but not conditioned fear.
