This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The overall goal of this study is to achieve clinically important improvements in the visual and structural outcome of patients with retinopathy of prematurity [ROP]. The primary aim is to determine whether selective, earlier ablation of the avascular retina is more effective than conventionally timed ablation of the avascular retina in reducing the incidence of blindness due to ROP. The secondary aim is to evaluae the efficacy and safety of the Risk Analysis Program (RM-ROP2) in the identification of eyes at high risk for progression to unfavorable structural outcomes.
