NOCTURNAL SECRETION OF OVARIAN STEROIDS, LH, AND FSH IN ADOLESCENT GIRLS

The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Adolescent hyperandrogenemia appears to be a precursor to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Women with PCOS have a reduced sensitivity to progesterone inhibition of GnRH pulsatility, likely due to elevated levels of androgens, as GnRH sensitivity can be restored to normal by androgen receptor blockade. We aim to examine the nocturnal secretory patterns of ovarian steroids, LH, & FSH in adolescent girls with or without elevated androgens during puberty. The results will advance our knowledge of the causes of PCOS.
