英文摘要
The University of Michigan Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (UM CTSA) will focus the formidable strengths of one of the world finest research institutions on supporting and facilitating clinical and translational research. The UM CTSA will be housed in the Center for Advancement of Clinical Research (CACR). The overwhelming majority of UM schools, colleges, and institutes are participating in the UM CTSA, including the Schools of Business, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Information, and Public Health, the Colleges of Engineering, Pharmacy, and Literature, Science and Arts, the Division of Kinesiology, the Institute of Social Research, and the Life Sciences Institute. The University-owned Health System, which includes large, integrated outpatient and inpatient facilities, as well as a managed care insurance company (M-CARE), is contributing significantly to a strong partnership with the UM CTSA. The ability of the UM CTSA to provide a robust "second home" for clinical and translational researchers from these many different units of the University is derived from pooling significant institutional assets, and giving the UM CTSA Director and Scientific Review Committee the authority to distribute these resources to worthy trainees, faculty, and research projects. In addition to the grant resources, the institution is contributing over 11 million per year of in-kind support, cost-sharing, support of pilot and recruitment programs, and renovation costs. Departments and units are contributing another 16 million annually in faculty effort, so that the CTSA can grant effort for pilot studies, education and "mini-K programs" without cost to the grant. To accomplish the mission of the UM CTSA, the reporting lines and authority of CACR and its director (the PI of the grant) will be modified to be trans-institutional. CACR will be strengthened through institutional authority to offer "membership" (akin to secondary appointments) for UM CTSA awardees. Our recently renewed GCRC, K-12, and K-30 programs will be incorporated into the UM CTSA, as required by the RFA. The UM CTSA is built on cross-cutting Research Themes, which in turn form Novel Clinical and Translational Methodology Projects, the provision of Clinical and Translational Technical Cores, and a Pilot and Collaborative Grant Program. A reconfigured Clinical Research Unit will house Participant and Clinical Interactions. Consultative Units or Cores in Biostatistics and Design, Ethics, Regulatory Knowledge and Support, Community Engagement, Clinical Translation (Type II Translation), Research in Pediatrics, and Health Disparities. Finally, a strong Research Education and Training Core will provide career development and training for faculty, students, and staff.
