英文摘要
A Thermo Vision System for real-time imaging and image analysis is necessary to support the research programs of Dr. Martynenko (Imaging technologies for bio-environmental management), Dr. Rupasinghe (Food bioprocessing) and Dr. Gordon (Agriculture resources management). The system consists of a programmable digital infrared camera with an additional set of lenses: (i) wide angle lens for large-scale temperature measurements, (ii) telescopic lens for long-distance temperature measurements, and (iii) close-up lens for microscopic measurements. This configuration fits the requirements of all three programs and will enable the applicants to use this instrument for multiple functions: remote real-time precision temperature measurements, monitoring of temperature gradients and spatial distribution of thermal patterns on biological interfaces. Thermal vision software, built-in interface and Labview drivers make it compatible with Labview and other instrumentation for bio-environmental research. Availability of this equipment will extend the research opportunities of the applicants in studying thermal events on the microscopic (food processing) and macroscopic (ecosystem) levels. It will result in new knowledge about temperature-induced changes in biosystems. This equipment is vital for the success of two NSERC Discovery Grants, AAFC-ABIP and NSERC/BIOCAP Strategic projects. Availability of this equipment will complement activities of other research programs currently running at NSAC: plant stress physiology (Dr. Prithiviraj) and precision agriculture (Dr. Zaman); it will also help in attracting additional resources from federal and provincial agencies and industries. Eventually, this imaging system will enhance the analytical capability and productivity of five collaborating research groups. More importantly, this equipment will be used to train 10-15 graduate students, 3-4 post-doctoral fellows and 12-15 research associates and technicians during the next five years.
