Characterization of chemokine induced differentiation of CD8+Tcells

CD8+ T cells recognize and kill infected cells and are an important arm of the immune system. Host factors and their effect on the ability of cells to function have been studied primarily with CD4+ T cells and macrophages. However, far less research has been performed using CD8+ T cells. We have observed that chemo-attractant cytokines induce IL-4 production and decrease IFNgamma production by CD8+ T cells. We now wish to determine how these chemokines affect cellular functions and signalling in CD8+ T cells in response to chemokines. In addition, since the chemokines have effects on both IL-4 and IFNgamma production, we wish to further examine how this is controlled.
