Funds are requested for the purchase of a microplate luminometer. This apparatus will be used to support research in plant metabolism, biological rhythms and signal transduction. The apparatus measures light emitted from biological samples. It is the instrument of choice to measure ATP, an indicator of the energetic status of the cell. It will also be used to measure luciferase, a marker widely used in bioassays and in the study of biological rhythms. The instrument is able to process up to 96 samples simultaneously. This feature reduces the time needed for analysis. The various applications for the instrument require a temperature control of the sample and 2 injectors to deliver reagents. The requested equipment is not currently available in our Institute. The development of the research programs of the 3 applicants depends heavily on the accessibility to a microplate luminometer. This instrument will be heavily used and will become an additional resource to all the students and research personnel of our Institute.
