Upgrades to the chemistry and biochemistry imaging facility

The funds from a NSERC Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) grant will be used to upgrade the Chemistry & Biochemistry Imaging Facility at the University of Windsor. These improvements will permit 4 professors and approximately 30 graduate students from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry to utilize these instruments to visualize minute specialized parts of cells (organelles) and invasive parasites as well as being able to continuously monitor microscopic changes to cells for several days at a time. The research projects that will benefit from these instrumental upgrades include studies on: the role of cell membrane composition controlling the entry of signaling molecules; the dysfunction in cellular signaling processes that lead to disease; understanding the processes by which parasites invade cells; and the prevention of nerve damage during stroke and in aging.
