A sensor wall for capture and animation of human climbing strategies

This proposal concerns the construction of a sensor wall for the capture and animation of human climbing strategies. The equipment in this proposal would support current NSERC and FQRNT research programs investigating reality based virtual humans and animals, and the simulation of virtual humans and animals during locomotion. Measurement and analysis of the forces and postures involved during climbing movements is critical to the success of the objectives of these research programs. As such, I request the materials and equipment necessary to construct a sensor wall including 6 holds instrumented with force torque sensors. This sensor wall would be a unique facility, as nothing similar exists either at McGill, or to the best of my knowledge anywhere else. Because of the timing and availability of students working on the proposed research, a delay in the acquisition of the requested equipment would significantly limit the ability to achieve the objectives of the proposed research and would also affect the formation of these highly qualified personnel.
