Automated decision support systems for construction industry

The current discovery grant in the area of automation and decision support systems has been successful in advancing the-state-of-the-art in the application of AI technology to the construction industry as well as in training highly qualified research personnel. The proposed research program capitalizes on these achievements to continue and to advance further the development of concepts, methodology and methods for implementation of integrated decision support systems to assist in the successful delivery of construction projects. The conceptual framework is validated and applied to two significant real-world projects: (i) building construction, and (ii) maintenance plans of concrete bridges. The research program focuses primarily on the development of tools, methods and support systems to assist practitioners to efficiently manage construction projects. The work includes the development of a dynamic material takeoff and cost estimation model using Building Information Modeling (BIM), web environment together with lifecycle analysis and costing.
