Hybrid microtapers and couplers made of chalcogenide glass surrounded by a layer of polymer were recently developed in the photonics laboratories at McGill University to fulfill an important need in the industry for compact optical devices. Microtapers of length in the order of a few centimetres are foreseen to replace the conventional kilometres long highly-nonlinear fibers made of silica. The successful development of hybrid microtaper prototypes has raised the interest from collaborators for a technology transfer. The project presented in this application thus aims at the development of hybrid microtapers and couplers suitable for industrial end-users. This includes:
