英文摘要
Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is Canada's premier research facility for Marine Biology supporting science disciplines including comparative physiology and biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, developmental and reproductive biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, neuroscience, invasive species biology, and conservation biology. This grant requests funds for a new refrigerated multifunctional table top centrifuge with the versatility to centrifuge samples in a variety of formats including 15 and 50 mls tubes, 96 well plates, 250 mls volumes and micro centrifuge tubes (1.5 ml). This system is necessary to accommodate the requirements of the numerous scientists who work at BMSC for various periods during the year. A centrifuge is an essential component of any laboratory and certainly for a laboratory that supports dozens of researchers each year. Maintaining this infrastructure in BMSC, rather than each research group duplicating, repairing and/or transporting similar equipment is a very economical use of NSERC funds. Acquisition of a multi-purpose centrifuge will enhance the capability and hence attractiveness of BMSC as an important NSERC-funded facility. Attracting and retaining world-class researchers at BMSC allows this world class facility to thrive, and provides unique opportunities for the various Discovery Grants this unique facility supports.
