Approximately one quarter of the solar irradiance that could otherwise be converted to electricity in crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules may never enter the actual cell due to parasitic absorption and reflection losses. Parasitic absorption refers to solar photons that are absorbed in any part of the module other than the active region of the cell, while reflection losses occur at the interfaces within the solar panel.
