The agricultural industry is struggling to keep up with the global need for food production. Population growth and the decline of arable land have led to the desire to expand the use of greenhouses, but greenhouses today are not practical in most climates, since they are transparent structures that let in sunlight and therefore require significant amounts of energy for temperature control. The challenge is to develop a greenhouse that can be highly transmissive to sunlight, and also highly insulated to maintain a desired temperature inside.
