Patients surviving ischemic stroke often express delayed epileptic syndromes. Late poststroke seizures occur after a latency period lasting from several months to years after the insult. These seizures might result from ischemia-induced neuronal death and associated morphological and physiological changes that are only partly elucidated. There is a need for low-cost imaging technique that will observe these changes and assist in treatment evaluation. We have recently shown that wide field optical imaging can be used for fast simultaneous imaging of blood flow and oxygenation in a rodent brain, a surrogate to neural activity. Building on ongoing collaboration for the past two years with researchers and clinicians in Toronto's hospitals and with QImaging, a worldwide leading biomedical imaging camera maker from Surrey, BC, we will translate these results to
