This grant application targets the acquisition of equipment specific for photonic research in the mid-infrared range of wavelengths. This equipment will support research efforts towards the fabrication of innovative devices required in the range of wavelength of 1850-4500 nm. Such components are in high demand for biological applications such as the identification of molecular signatures (e.g. in blood, saliva, skin, breath that hold more than 500 health status indicators) and their concentration measurement, as well as industrial applications (e.g. inspection of meat quality, optimization of burning processes, monitoring of gaseous and liquid wastes) and monitoring of the environment. Such devices are scarce resource as their deployment is only at its beginning.
