英文摘要
Embedded computer systems are the intelligence behind many of the high technology devices appearing on the market, from planes to trains, cars, mobile phones and house appliances. In many applications, the embedded computer system has a critical role and needs to constantly analyze at high speed and in real time a large number of parameters. In such cases, embedded multi-core processors are increasingly used, since several processors are available to work in parallel to process in real time all the information. This is especially true in the aerospace industry where the number of sensors integrated in planes will soon go from a few tens to several hundreds. This is useful to monitor not only the plane speed but also the lift at a hundred points on the wings, for example to detect icing problems. The design of real-time multi-threaded programs to run on these embedded multi-core systems and their simulators is exceedingly complex and requires better debugging and performance analysis tools. In this project, recent extremely efficient algorithms for low overhead, low disturbance tracing will be extended to real-time embedded multi-core systems and simulators, and new special purpose performance analysis and debugging modules will be developed. As a result, with these new software development tools, the Canadian aerospace and embedded computer systems industry will be able to tackle the challenge of designing the new sophisticated real-time multi-core systems much more efficiently, avoiding delays and bringing products to market faster and with fewer defects.
