Canada is among world-leaders in the development of wind turbines as a viable alternate energy source. Wind turbines are complex structures usually comprised of a 3-blade rotor supported atop a steel mast which, in turn, is connected to a reinforced concrete foundation. The design of the foundation structure itself is technically challenging, with the recent collapse of a large wind turbine creating concerns about the appropriateness of current practice.
