One of the major challenges faced by the biopharmaceutical industry is the production of therapeutics with sterility assurance levels of terminally sterilized products throughout the entire manufacturing process. Biotherapeutics are produced by cultivating living cells (bacteria, yeast, insect, and mammalian) in a nutrient solution (also known as a medium), whose composition is based on the growth requirements of the cells. The composition and sterility of the media are critical for any cell culture derived products. This initiative aims to capitalize on the success achieved from studies pursued as part of an Engage Grant. The former has led to the preparation of a manuscript and Trojan filing for a patent related to the work conducted as part of he Engage grant. Prof. Aucoin has led an investigation into the effects of UV on cell culture media and its effects on he
