Turbulent boundary layers subjected to pressure gradients

This research program concerns the study of turbulent flows by experimental and theoretical means. The flows considered are near surfaces and are decelerated or accelerated under the influence of pressure variations. They are simplified versions of flows encountered in important industrial applications, such as the flows around airplanes, wind turbines or inside turbo engines. Through experiments and advanced analysis of numerical and experimental databases of carefully chosen flows, we are seeking a better understanding of the fundamental properties of these flows in order to support industrial efforts in developing and improving products that play an important socio-economic role for Canada (aerial, terrestrial and marine vehicles, turbo engines, hydro and wind turbines for power generation). Our research will help especially in the design and numerical modelling of these products. It will also reinforce our research collaboration with international experts of turbulent flows and it will create an excellent environment for the training of highly qualified engineers, researchers and professors.
