Solid propellants and explosives belong to the class of combustible known as energetic materials. These energy resources are extensively used for applications such as airbags inflators, rockets and demolitions. Because of its great importance for practical applications, a reliable model of these energetic materials is highly desirable. For engineering scale systems, the Baer-Nunziato BN model based on non-equilibrium multiphase mixture theory is mostly considered for granular energetic materials, and its generalization has been applied for heterogeneous solid-particle flows. However, the possibility to accurately solve the complex BN multiphase equations and perform real simulations has long represented a very ambitious goal. In recent years, this multiphase model has undergone intensive analytical development, and new advance in applied mathematics and scientific computing opens promising opportunity to reach this goal of finding accurately and efficiently its numerical solutions.
