This study proposes to develop a flight-assist mechanism for multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) being flown in confined interior environments where GPS localization is denied. The ability for a UAV to perform autonomous object avoidance while still under navigational control of a pilot will allow him to focus on other aspects of the mission such as exploration, inspection, and other sensing tasks without fear of disturbing the environment or causing damage to the UAV.
