Mycodev Group is a Canadian manufacturer and supplier of chitosan, a natural polymer, from non-animal sources. Due to its non-toxicity, biodegradability, and antibacterial properties, chitosan is widely-used in a multitude of biomedical, pharmaceutical, and industrial applications. Typically, chitosan is extracted from the shell of crustaceans, which can be problematic for some of these applications. The chitosan produced by Mycodev Group is obtained from the growth of a fungus, greatly enhancing its applicability and reducing the risk of allergic reactions. The present study aims at determining the impact of different tuneable parameters of chitosan of fungal origin on its antimicrobial efficacy.
