英文摘要
Currently, Aevitas Inc does not have rapid screening test for the wastewater that is brought in for treatment at its facilities. This means that under current conditions, the testing process takes 6 hours, and the test results are often unreliable. In order to be competitive and keep up with the regulations of the City of Brantford, Aevitas requires the ability to quickly and accurately screen wastewater coming into their treatment facilities for the presence of biocides, since this will determine the best strategy for treating that waste and the associated costs to their customers. The McMaster research team will develop screening method that will determine the presence of biocides in samples provided by Aevitas by having a pre-measured amount of bacteria, exposing them to the wastewater and determining the viability of the bacteria by measuring the amount of ATP
(adenosine triphosphate) in these bacteria as a function of the waste concentration. This will enable Aevitas to determine the appropriate treatment.
