The focus of this proposal on devising energy efficient communication scheme for massive multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) systems, also known as very large scale MIMO. Massive MIMO has been recently the
center focus of research
due to its potential to provide data rate gains in the order of few thousands. The basic idea in massive MIMO to
equip the base stations with a large number of antennas, while the user devices have only one single antenna,
thereby allowing
very sharp beams to be formed from the base stations towards the users (downlink) and vice versa (uplink).
In the project we will develop robust signal processing techniques using worst-case optimization techniques.
These techniques will guarantee that the performance will not worse than certain level under two assumptions,
1) the energy efficiency is maximal 2) the CSI is bound to be within a norm-bounded set.
