In any economic paradigm, the concept of ownership is fundamental. From the concrete ownership of goods and services, one has the more abstract ownership of buying potential in the form of currency. We are witnessing a digital revolution in which our world is being recast in an information-based paradigm, and currency is no exception. Bitcoin is a digital currency that uses a set of protocols (based on blockchains) that are intended to eliminate the need of intermediaries to conduct transactions. A transaction may be seen as an access control and thus, while bitcoins are seen at first as currency, the underlying blockchain infrastructure can be used for other applications involving access control, such as Digital Rights Management. In this project, we will look at an innovative but practical blockchain based solution to DRM.
