英文摘要
The development of connected (or Internet of) vehicles has received a lot of attention recently from governments, automobile manufacturers, and consumers. Connectivity can serve various purposes such as traffic control and management, individual route planning, urban planning, electronic tolling, etc. Motorcycle community should definitely be part of this movement. This project aims to collect telemetry data such as the rider's geographical position, direction, speed, acceleration, angular velocity, altitude, temperature and vibrations from Motorcycles in real time. This will be done by designing dedicated telemetry and data acquisition wireless modules in a cost effective manner. These modules shall have ability for near field communications to acquire mobility data from various sensors. These shall also have wide area wireless connectivity to transmit the data to the cloud server. These shall be robust and rugged and be powered by motorcycle batteries. This data, together with data from other connected vehicles, will then be stored and analyzed to learn rider dynamics and provide real time feedback on things like traffic, safety, frequent accident spots and road status. This data can be shared with other nearby connected vehicles as well. The major technical challenges would be: 1) Reliable acquisition of telemetry data using signal processing and filtering algorithms to remove movement artifacts, noise and distortion and 2) Data compression algorithms to reduce the amount of data 3) Accurate, real-time analysis of the collected data in the edge server in the cloud for extracting useful information. Note the first two operations shall be implemented in the microprocessor in the telemetry device with limited processing capacities.
