Reflection and Engagement in Online Training

E-Learning, or online training has been rapidly increasing in popularity in the last few years. While this can be a convenient and cost-effective way to provide training to consumers or employees, not all e-learning systems are effective. In particular, many systems were designed seemingly without much consideration of the wealth of scientific research that has been conducted on the neuroscience of how people learn. One company that is committed to developing a more effective e-learning system based on neuroscience is Halifax-based startup SageCrowd. SageCrowd's social learning platform aims to provide content that is well-remembered over time by learners. In order to further improve the SageCrowd learning system, it needs to be tested scientifically, to determine which components are most effective. This study will test three different iterations of the SageCrowd platform, and will examine how learning is impacted by factors such as the type of visuals used in the lessons, the location in which the lessons are completed, and the length of time between learning and testing of the material. Through this project, SageCrowd will gain valuable information with which to refine and optimize their learning platform.
