项目摘要

SLC Applied Research and FireRein of Napanee,Ontario, have received an award from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) to investigate the performance of a proprietary gel additive for fire suppressant. FireRein has developed a proprietary FDA approved eco gel that can be added into the water pumping trucks that are common to firefighting departments worldwide to quickly suppress fires. The company, working with Applied Research, Civil and Electrical engineering departments at St. Lawrence College, will be testing the FireRein product and comparing it to competitor's products currently being used by fire departments. The purpose of these performance tests will be to understand the performance difference between FireRein's product and the other leading products in the market to determine how quickly each product extinguishes a fire. Although foam additives have been commonly used by fire departments, there are no current additives that are environmentally safe. FireRein's gel additive product has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as safe for the environment meaning the clean up after using the gel will be easier, and the environmental impact will be reduced.
