英文摘要
In veterinary diagnostic medicine, patients cannot be instructed to hold their breath during x-ray imaging, which creates difficulty in timing a proper exposure. This leads to a two-fold problem: (i) a quality control issue, with many images unsuitable for diagnosis; (ii) a workplace safety issue, with increased radiation exposure to veterinary care providers, as repeated images need to be acquired. In this project, an automated x-ray exposure computing and triggering system will be designed and tested, in conjunction with the industry partner Prairie Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging (PVDI). This novel system will improve veterinary x-ray imaging workflow and decrease the need for repeating images, thus decreasing radiation exposure to the patients and technical staff.
The outcome of this project should facilitate the industry partner, PVDI, in integrating this novel x-ray exposure computation and automated triggering system into clinical imaging systems, as well as becoming a component in a newly designed radiography unit specific to the needs of veterinary practice. This technology has applications in human medicine as well, particularly in pediatric radiology where many of the same problems with patient compliance are encountered.
