Commercial proteins are mainly produced using recombinant technology and established production platforms such as microbial, yeast, or mammalian cell cultures. With the advent of plant transformation technology, plants and algae have proven to be feasible bioreactors for the large-scale production of recombinant proteins. The advantages are in terms of production costs, scalability and product safety, ease of storage and distribution, none of which can be matched by any current bacterial or mammalian production platform. Proteins Easy Corp is a Canadian biotechnology development company transforming the production of recombinant proteins with patented processes for gene insertion and selective expression, followed by proprietary greenhouse propagation and pilot plant isolation and purification. In the proposed project we aim at understanding how a commercial fusion-protein becomes tethered to the granule growing inside rice cells using proteomic mass spectrometry. We will generate new proteomic data as an important resource for company's genetic engineers because the discovered rice proteins can be deployed in optimizing the design of improved DNA constructs for proteins
