With increasing interest in the applications of unamnned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the need for safety landing of UAVs after rotor power failures has become a priority. In particular, there is a strong demand for autonomous emergency landing of helicopter-type UAVs that have become very popular in many civil and military applications. For this purpose, autorotation and safe crash landing strategies have been designed. Majority of the previous approaches, developed many years ago, are too conservative for modern helicopters and rely in part on pilots to implement the strategy.
