Force sensors are abounding in robotics, industrial automation equipment, automobile safety devices, medical systems and many others. Force sensors are also known as force transducers as they convert an input mechanical force into an electrical output signal. Force sensors typically act as force sensing resistors in an electrical circuit thus when the force sensor is unloaded, its resistance are very high and when a force is applied, the resistance decreases. This mechanism of operation requires an interrogator (reader) system to be constantly connected to the actual sensor either through a wire or through a wireless link. The former may greatly reduce the use cases of a tethered sensor and the latter, adds to the complexity and cost.
