The College of New Caledonia and Family Dental Care, a group of five full-service dental offices located in Prince George, British Columbia, are researching and developing a machine-learning approach to automate and improve routine tasks in healthcare administration. Currently, healthcare administrative staff spend considerable time and resources processing patient insurance payment information. This project will develop a software algorithm that automates elements of this process by "teaching" a computer to analyze insurance payment forms, recognize and extract important information from forms, and populate a central database with information and recommendations. By automating these processes, this project seeks to develop an innovative approach that will save administrative staff considerable time and resources.
